I was born in Sardegna and I came to Pisa to study Foreign Languages at Pisa's University. I've been living here for 8years. After I got my degree, I spent a year abroad, to improve Spanish and English, above all. Thanks to my enthusiasm for History of Art, I started to attend the class to become Tour Guide of Pisa and Florence.
In 2008 I have started to work with passion as Licenced Courier and Guide, conscious of the cultural and moral enhancement that such profession brings. I enjoy spending my time with people, explaining them our monuments and works of art and taking them to taste some fine local products.
The Visitmore project aims to spread a new and different idea of tourism: the concept of a "slow visit" deep inside the culture of my country, against the contemporary concept of a "fast culture".
I take up with optimism the challenge of Visitmore, because I am sure that my passion and love for this job will bear fruit!
“The group of buildings, clustered on and about this verdant carpet, comprising the Tower, the Baptistery, the Cathedral and the Cemetery: is perhaps the most remarkable and beautiful in the whole world; and from being clustered there, together [...] they have a singularly, vulnerable and impressive character. It is the architectural essence of a rich old city" ” Charles Dickens, 1844
In the past it represented the symbol of the economic and political power of the Ancient Maritime Republic of Pisa. Thanks to the pisan-romanesque style masterpieces it holds, the square has always been the starting point of any walking tour of Pisa.
In the square you will see 5 monuments:
The Bell tower
The Old Hospital, which is today the Museum of Sinopias
The tour aims to show you the monuments together with the sociopolitical context in which they were built. I warmly suggest tourists to visit monuments inside in order to discover the masterpieces they preserve. .
Come and discover Pisa with a walking tour through the oldest streets of the town. You will realize that there is more than "Just the Leaning Tower"! You will be surprised by the view of ruins belonging to the first centuries, when Pisa was founded by the Etruscans. The town center still holds signs of the dominations Pisa had to endure, but it also tells us about the glorious past of Pisa Ancient Maritime Republic. You will also discover that the historical town centre of Pisa is cut by the river Arno, which still gives a fascinating atmosphere to this town.
Since 1949 the museum is situated inside an ancient Benedictine monastery. Despite the relevance of the works of art preserved inside (the museum is one of the most important medieval museums in Europe), S.Matteo is quite unknown to the public.
Inside the Museum, you can find a great collection of paintings which belongs to the Italian Trecento and Quattrocento. Among those paintings, we find great authors such as Simone di Martini, Masaccio and Beato Angelico. It is also worth to mention the relevance of the sculptures made by Nicola, Andrea and Nino Pisano and the ceramic basins, made by Pisan and Islamic artists. The tour aims to guide you through the important art collections preserved in a context, the old monastery, which is a work of art itself.
The ancient Velhatri (Windswept) still holds ruins of its Etruscan origins; the modern name,Volterra, has got latin roots. From the first centuries, Volterra was exploited for its alabaster‘s pits. The alabaster is a gypseous rock similar to marble. It was used to make hundred of cinerary urns, today at the Guarnacci Museum. During the tour you will be showed round the ruins of different historical times and you will appreciate the harmony of different stiles mixed together
